Note: FRICTION DISCS
Discs stored for a long time (>6 months) can be subject to an ageing of the friction material and consequently lowered performance on the brake plate pair.
A new running-in of the disc allows to bring the torque value back to the nominal value which, however, must always be checked.
In any case, it is necessary to inspect the braking disc to verify its constructive and mechanical integrity during the normal maintenance phases of the machine and/or the adjustment of the air gap. For discs working on brake units with protection degree IP54 or lower, check the formation of rust with periodic quarterly inspections, as the onset of rust can trigger abnormal behavior of the disc.
Brake plates with anti-sticking friction material must be replaced after 4 years from the date of manufacture even if the friction material has not been completely consumed. This is due to the deterioration of the characteristics of the friction material itself.
Quarterly monitoring is required to verify the condition of the brake discs within the period indicated above.
